Frequently Asked Questions
How does therapy work?
1
Typically, therapy with me means meeting once a week for a 45-minute virtual session. However, that’s not right for everyone. I also offer 60 and 90-minute sessions, and I’m happy to find time to meet multiple times a week, or every other week. I’m also exploring options to meet in person. It all depends on what would create the most helpful space for you to explore in therapy.
How much does therapy cost?
2
My full-service fee is $200 per session. I know that this fee is not accessible or sustainable for everyone, so I also offer a sliding scale. Please contact me at kay@therapywithkay.com for my current sliding scale availability.
Can I use my insurance?
3
Unfortunately, I don’t take insurance right now. However, I collaborate with my clients to explore out-of-network benefits when possible. I’m also actively exploring insurances that demonstrate a commitment to supporting and improving health outcomes for the LGBTQIA+ community. For ideas of where insurance is accepted, please see No. 4.
Where else can I find LGBTQIA+ supportive therapists and care?
4
I know how hard it can be to find the right therapy for you. At this time, I recommend Manhattan Alternative and the Asian Mental Health Collective, which are national resources, and Rose Hill, Karen Horney , Blanton-Peale, and NIP in New York City.
What made you want to be a therapist?
5
If younger me could peek into a crystal ball and see that I’ve ended up as a therapist, she’d be shocked. I had awful experiences in therapy as a teen and young adult. Talking about gender and sexuality meant I had a problem. Then I finally found a therapist who could listen to what I was saying, and help me explore what I needed to, and she changed my life. I think people like me and you deserve therapy for us, by us.
